The International Association of Plumbing Mechanical Operators (IAPMO) Green Technical Committee has formally approved the updates that will be published in the new 2015 edition of the IAPMO Green Plumbing & Mechanical Code Supplement, due to be released later this year. One such new requirement is that products included within the scope of WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803: Sustainable Drinking Water Treatment Systems, must be certified to this standard before they can be connected to building plumbing systems. The current scope of S-803 extends to filter systems, which include any combination of activated carbon, polypropylene, polyethylene, and/or string-wound media. However, soon S-803 will be expanded to also cover ultraviolet treatment systems and coolers/dispensers.

Manufacturers interested in certifying their products to the WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803 standard should contact WQA Sustainability Certification Supervisor Stuart Mann, MWS, at 630-929-2546 orsmann@wqa.org.
